How Mother Teresa Inspires Me

I was blessed to spend a year volunteering with Mother Teresa missionary of charity

brothers in downtown LA. Our primary service was feeding the homeless and the undocumented. “Nuestro Jugar (Our Home)” offered showers, fresh clothes and shaving

equipment as all of the homeless were men.

Praying with the brothers of Mother Teresa taught me that we are called to serve the unwanted, the unloved and the uncared for. Mother Teresa’s style was you preach without preaching and you show your faith by concrete acts of love. This Fransiscan style profoundly affected me as a young man. I learned that people will not always believe what you say but they will always believe what you do. Mother Teresa and her community served as a model for our Feed My Poor work.
